Plan and Facts

Ireland 2016

I finished my second continent, South America, in May 2015. Despite being busy with media and talks all over the world, I felt like a racehorse in the stable.

The following spring, I used my energy on remodeling my two Jannys Eis Cafés from scratch but damaged my elbows during the construction. Despite a severe „Golf elbow“ issue for over a year, I wanted to be back on the water.

Ireland was almost on the doorstep and had a reasonable size. I could drive there anytime, alone and independently, and do the round trip at my own pace, adapting to the pain in my elbows. I knew I could paddle. With my excellent forward rotation stroke, I do not use them. It worked, and it even got better due to the adrenalin being back on the run. But I was not racing anyone.

Ireland has hundreds of caves, arches, tunnels, and impressive stacks, but I never did any surf landing. It was a pleasant little training run. A Lettmann Speedliner was my kayak on this trip, but I found nothing is better than my „Freya“ kayak, though discontinued on production and, therefore, sponsorship. I still own an extensive fleet of „Freyas.“

I liked to test my motivation for another big trip after the huge South American success, which seemed hard to top. The conclusion : I like to do „The North Island,“ matching South America. My third continent!
