Sweden + Lofoten 2020

You can read all about the Lofoten adventure as a bonus-chapter (2-35) in my 2nd North American book, available on Amazon. All pictures, the map and the trip table you can find here on my website.

2020 - the year Covid hit the world. I was not able to continue after March 21st in Mexico with my planned paddling partner Markus Ziebell, nor could I travel to Alaska in the summer of 2020.

My German paddling partner Markus and I made the best of it and managed to squeeze in two smaller trips in Sweden and Lofoten / Norway - not quite a continuation of my BIG trip around North America, but better than not being on the water at all.

We had a great time with great pictures in Sweden and went for the Lofoten in late summer - the notoriously windy but beautiful cliff area in Europe. Crossing the infamous Moskenstraumen twice felt like "no big deal" with the perfect timing of the tides and favorable weather, but we were aware that it could look very different in that strait. Still cruising the next day north along the cliffs in light winds and seas, we got a taste of what was possible here when we camped for five days in the shelter of Buneset Strand. We may have started one day too early again, heading north along the cliffs. It was a ride of a lifetime, but Markus and I were firmly in our saddles. The rest of the trip was rather pleasant again, with sightseeing of many local dried fish processing places, the narrow Troll Fjord and lots of stunning, remote nature. It was well worth the long journey to get there.
